Rizal Elementary School History

Incepted in the early 1900 as a semi-permanent building on the site near the Tanza Catholic Church that became the first Rizal Primary School. The following year, the building was expanded and housed the Grade 5 and 6 classes and became Rizal Elementary School. However, several years later the school returned to its former status as a primary school and went on for many years.

Before the outbreak of the Second World War, a site was donated by Don Serafin Villanueva where a permanent school building was constructed, this is the present site of Rizal Elementary School.

During the Japanese occupation, Rizal Elementary School became a garrison of Japanese Imperial Army and when United States returned to liberate the Philippines one of the edifices was heavily damaged.

Intermediate refresher course at Rizal Elementary School was transferred to Iloilo Central Elementary School. The primary Grades were temporarily accommodated at the H.E. and Shop Buildings on the school which were still intact. The city government then put up a temporary building of nipa and bamboo at the site where Rizal Estanzuela Elementary School, now Manuel L. Quezon Elementary School stands.

In 1944, bomb ravaged the building and was temporarily repaired and it housed some departments of the city government. Later on, this was turned over to Rizal Elementary School when the city government transferred to University of the Philippines Building.

Through the efforts of the Principals and with the help of different Government and Non-Government Organizations, permanent buildings were constructed.
